Are you currently feeling down, anxious or stressed? Have you reached a point where you're feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns and finding it difficult to move forwards? Do you feel that you need to make changes in your life, but don't know where to start?

I am a Counselling Psychologist with many years of experience working for the NHS and private sector with a range of difficulties, including depression or low mood, low self-esteem, stress, worry, panic attacks, health anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, traumatic experiences and difficulties stemming back to childhood.

I will provide you a confidential, safe space in which we can collaboratively explore and understand your difficulties. Whatever your goal or desired focus, we can work together to take steps to achieving this. I have a compassionate, non-judgemental style and my approach is flexible to tailor the sessions according to your individual needs.

I am trained to draw on one form of therapy or integrate different approaches depending on what best suits you, such as person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, narrative exposure therapy (NET) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT).

If you feel that I may be the right therapist for you, you are most welcome to send me a message and we can arrange an initial appointment to discuss your needs.

‘In the waves of change we find our true direction’.
At the points in our lives when we feel like we are surrounded by change, we have an opportunity to remake ourselves. We can choose which parts we wish to take with us to build our future and which we no longer need. Whether change is imposed on us from the outside or it bubbles up from within us, it can leave us feeling out of control and stuck, unsure of what to do next. Whatever the feelings are that you are experiencing having a safe space to explore them and begin to make sense of what happens next can help you to take back control and choose your direction of travel.
I can offer you a place to be curious about what changes are possible for you, to explore your past and present so you can make choices about your future. As an integrative counsellor I am able to draw on a number of therapeutic approaches and we will work collaboratively to find out how I can best support you.
Because I know that counselling works best when you find the right person, I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation, so you can check if I’m the right person for you. Please contact me by email or phone with your availability and I will get back to you in 48 hours. More information about me is available on my website www.curiosityspot.co.uk

I am a counsellor specialising in working with anxiety. I offer long and short term counselling to adults through online video sessions via Zoom. Do you struggle with anxiety? Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or having trouble sleeping? Maybe you are feeling 'off', and want to feel like yourself again? Counselling can help. I provide a safe, confidential space for you to explore yourself with someone who is unrelated to your personal life and who won’t judge you.

I offer a free, 15-minute phone consultation when you contact me as I believe it’s important to find a counsellor you feel comfortable with. We will talk about what is troubling you and how I may be able to help.

At our first session, I will ask you some questions to help me understand how I can help you to find a way forward with your problems. During sessions, I will listen to you with the aim of helping you feel clearer about the extent and effect of your problems, and to help you recognise possible solutions. I work in a warm, understanding way to help you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to achieve your goals. I may offer ideas to work on outside of the sessions, such as keeping a journal or carrying out exercises.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions or to book in your free phone consultation.

Counselling can help you to make sense of what’s happening in your world and work through bottled up feelings and emotions that are affecting your overall wellbeing.

I’m here to listen and offer you the time and a safe space for you to work through your feelings and the things that are troubling you – at your own pace, and, removed from your everyday life.

You know yourself better than anyone, and I’m not here to advise or tell you what to do. Neither am I here to pass judgement. Instead, I seek to create a confidential, trusting space where you feel safe and able to reflect on your life and talk things through. You do most of the talking and exploring; I listen and show you the power of being truly heard. I’m disconnected from your life and you can talk to me freely and in confidence without feeling guilt or worrying about upsetting anyone.

Working in collaboration with you, I hope to offer you a safe and non judgemental space in counselling where you will feel able to unpack and process your emotions and also discover some of the underlying causes to your problems and concerns.  Sessions with me are friendly, open, holistic and centred on the individual experiences of clients.  As a person centred therapist I will work with you at a pace that you feel comfortable with on the parts and aspects of your life that you choose to bring to each therapy session.

I am an experienced BACP Registered therapist who has been counselling since 2013.  As a counsellor I hold significant experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings including Rape Crisis (2013-2016) and Mind (2015-2017) in addition to my own private practice.  In 2020, prompted by the national health concerns, I chose to train in online and telephone counselling.  Online therapy is, in my experience, as effective as a face to face client counselling session.  Clients have the ability to access therapy from the comfort of their own environment, in many cases this remote aspect of therapy aids the therapeutic process.

I offer sessions using the Zoom Video online platform and via the telephone on either a short or long term basis depending on the individual clients needs.  I work with a variety of different concerns from relational difficulties to depression and anxiety, however, this is not an exhaustive list.  In every instance I  will work with the person you are now and will help you to unpack how you experience that which has brought you into therapy and will support you in the process of identifying and overcoming the blocks that are preventing you from moving forward.

I am committed to ensuring that each client accesses the therapy that is the most suitable for them and will advise you honestly whether I feel I can work with your particular area of concern or point you in the direction of somebody who can.  I offer a free, no obligation telephone consultation for all clients thinking about therapy and will be happy to talk you though how I might work with you in counselling plus answer any questions you may have.  Please get in touch via email or give me a ring on 0774 9449251 to arrange this, I look forward to speaking to you.

In the waves of change we find our true direction

Sometimes, when everything feels like it is in flux, we have an opportunity to become who we are meant to be.

We are very rarely just one thing because we do not fit into boxes even though society often tries to squeeze us into certain ones. We exist in different roles, different space and different relationships; we are messy. This can often lead to tension within ourselves as we try and fit into who we think we 'should' be.

Lots of us spend a great deal of energy hiding the parts of ourselves that do not fit, pretending that everything is ok, when really we know that we are not being true to ourselves. This might be interests that you do not pursue, relationships or jobs you stay in even though they no longer make you happy, or even a denial of part of your identity that feels too difficult to let out.

Can you imagine how it would feel to be at peace with all of the parts of you, to craft a life where they were all valued and nourished?

Sometimes we become so caught up in all of our 'shoulds', that we don't stop think about what we would could or would like to do. While change can feel scary and difficult, it is also an opportunity to make different choices.

How Can Counselling Help?

Counselling can provide a safe place to become curious about yourself and your life. By working with someone who is impartial and only interested in supporting you to make the right decision for you, it can be easier to tune into your own sense of self rather than other people's expectations.

By understanding and acknowledging the different aspects of our own identity and how they interact with each other and different areas of our lives, we can begin to make choices about who we want to be.

Any change can feel difficult and will cause ripples in different areas of your life, but when you feel secure in who you are and what is important to you, it becomes easier to start living the way you want to.

 How Do I work?

My training was integrative, which means that it covered several different types of counselling (Person Centred, CBT, Systemic and Psychodynamic). Since qualifying I have completed additional training in Compassion Focused Therapy and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.

Because my training has been varied, I can tailor my way of working to suit your changing needs. Sometimes you might want a place to talk and explore whatever is coming up for you that day, but on other occasions you might want to work with a structured exercise. The most important part of how I work is that it will be led by you, we will talk about what does and does not feel helpful in all our sessions.

I am happy to work with any individual who feels they would benefit from counselling and have previously worked with LGBTQ+ communities and university disability support services. As someone with more than one label attached to my identity I know how frustrating it can be to have to educate professionals on what they mean in general before you can even start to talk about your unique experiences. If you're worried that this might be a barrier, please get in touch for a free initial consultation telephone call.

How to Book

Because there are a small number of clients who won’t be able to access online sessions either because they don't have access to the technology or because they are in crisis and would benefit from more specialist support. Anyone looking to access online sessions will need to have a free, 20 minute, telephone consultation where we can make sure it is the right type of therapy for you before we start. This also gives you the opportunity to ask me any questions about counselling and how I work to make sure I am the right person for you. Once we have both decided that we can work together we will book an appointment.

At the beginning of our first session we will go through the contract I will have sent by email so you have a chance to ask questions about anything you are unsure of. Once I have answered any questions we have we will start by talking about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to get from it. Sometimes this is very straight forward, but for other clients this can be quite difficult to put into words, often we know something is not right, but we can’t quite put our finger on what it is.

If that is the case for you then I will usually suggest that we spend the first session mapping out what is currently going on in your life and talking about any areas that you might like to explore in therapy. Sometimes a focus will emerge quite quickly, whether it’s an experience, emotion or question that you wish to explore. For others we might spend several sessions sorting through the past and present before some clarity begins to emerge.

If you are already clear on what your focus is then we will discuss how you would like to approach it. I might make suggestions of possible starting points of initial steps, but you will be in control and are always welcome to say no. The important thing is that we will work together to find a way that works for you.
