Online Training for Counsellors

Online Training for Counsellors offers flexible part-time study, supported distance and self-paced learning for post qualifying, undergraduate and counsellors and therapeutic practitioners.  Courses are delivered by  CPCAB approved personal tutors who offer one to one support and guidance to each student as they generate fresh insight into ethical online practice and navigate their way through tricky technical and therapeutic situations.

If you are looking to update your online skills and continual personal development this is the page for you.  You register and begin whenever it suits your diary and when the workshop is completed and you have submitted the relevant questionnaire you will be sent a certificate for your records.  Some of our self-study workshops offer personalised feedback on submissions which invite you to focus on where more research may be helpful.

We also offer workshops on subjects such as Creative Writing, Trauma and our Essential Online Supervision Skills.  Dates and fees will be added and published in our newsletter.

Our tutor-led training meets ACTO Membership Levels 2 and 3.

During weeks 2, 6 and 10, there are whole group meetings held on a video platform. These take place on a Sunday usually in the late afternoon or early evening depending on time zones.

Attendance at these meetings is mandatory.

To demonstrate a higher level of online expertise we deliver a Diploma in Online Counselling.  You will be led by warm and professional specialists in the online approach and this training is also validated by CPCAB. During the Diploma, you integrate your online counselling knowledge and skills with practice. You will be working as online counsellors receiving clients for counselling and in line with UK counselling practice requirements, you will receive group supervision for your client work during the time DOC is running. At the same time, you will explore, research and discuss the challenges which face online counsellors who work with a global client base, considering ethical, legal and health issues from a world perspective as well as considering the different ways the internet may be used for online counselling and therapy.

During the taught part of the course, there are weekly discussion meetings using meeting platforms which are held on Friday mornings 9.00 – 10.30 am. These meetings, together with the online supervision meetings, are mandatory.

Our specialist Diploma in Online Therapeutic Supervision is aimed at online professionals who wish to provide or already provide online supervision.  It will explore models and theories that developed for face-to-face supervision and also identify the differences between face to face and online supervision.

Throughout the course, students develop specific models for online supervision based on their own experience, models and theories.  At the end, you will have gained a robust qualification validated by CPCAB which explores how both new and older models can be skillfully used to inform the supervisory process both online and face to face.

An in depth and supportively challenging programme. I thoroughly recommend it. I’m very experienced in the online world, I thought, every week was huge learning. Fabulous!  The extra awareness and skill to move into effective therapeutic relationship possibilities is awesome.
